TURN in New Mexico - October 2009

by Ellen Bernstein, TURN Co-Director

TURN returned to the beautiful Tamaya resort, which is situated half way between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, for its fall meeting. The meeting started out well with a thought-provoking presentation focused on the difference between “Innovation” and “Reform” by Joe Graba and Louise Sundin.  Participants had the opportunity to attend several breakout sessions, which represented a variety of innovative efforts, including:

  • A Grand Bargain for Education Reform: New Rewards and Support for New Accountability by Dr. Ted Hershberg, Operation Public Education provided participants with a preview of his upcoming book, was extremely provocative.
  • The Next Generation of Teacher and Union Leaders by Precious Crabtree, Fairfax Education Association
  •  Networking Teachers and Teacher Unions by Ellen Meyer, Director of the Teachers Network Leadership Institute (TNLI) provided support toward the establishing and maintaining TURN regional networks.
