Advocacy
While the mission of advocating for member interests and member rights remains as a core value, the definition of those interests and the methods for achieving them is changing.
Three Frames of Progressive Unionism
The Three Frames Document describes three complementary roles that teacher unions play (Industrial, Professional, and Social Justice Unionism). It was developed through the Mooney Institute for Teacher & Union Leadership. It provides the basis for the Three Frames Reflection Activity developed by the Consortium for Educational Change to help locals assess the degree to which they statisfy each of the roles and make determinations about their future direction.
The Three Frames process has been used extensively in the Great Lakes TURN region. Their experience has been shared through presentations and workshops at national TURN meetings. Leaders from Great Lakes TURN are available to facilitate Three Frames training in other regions.
Re-Imagining & Reinventing the Local
The Milwaukee Teachers Education Association recently initiated a "Re-imagine and Reinvent the MTEA" campaign. President Bob Peterson launched the effort at the last Annual MTEA Leadership Convocation through prepared remarks accompanied by presentations outlining the rationale and a new leadership structure at the school level (see image, below).
